GERVAY BRIO " A Deejay not like others ! " Biography by Andrea Graber - former EMI France artistic director : The French Deejay-producer Gervay Brio is listed on thirty compilations, head of ReverbNationChart during one year with his hit « 1 Knight in Malta » inspired by an epic journey on the island of Malta, where he performed in August 2014 (Envy). Getting support from international best deejays : Nikki Belluci Radio FG, Above and Beyond, Electrosound.tv, Gervay win the Award of « Best Dance-Ambient Song » by The Akademia Music Awards, Los Angeles CA. in June 2015. Gervay Brio released a new remix of "Kalagia", one of his earliest compositions (the "Nadanta" album, 1978) in tribute to the victims of the terrible earthquake in Nepal. In an unprecedented "Deejay Aid", half of the profits will go to the karmapafoundation.org, Gervay also composed "Karmapa Day", a new song to welcome H.H. Karmapa XVII in France June 2016. This kind of gesture is not new to Gervay : In 1993 he composed music featuring Kakoli Sengupta and Shamal Maitra for the film "Tears of Shiva" (Gedima-Arte) to support the fight of Baba Amte, a new « Gandhi » who resisted the banks' intentional flooding of the legendary valley of Narmada and the expulsion of its population. Born near Saint Malo, Gervais Briot alias Gervay Brio is a descendant of the nobility of Britain (J. Armange, companion of Joan of Arc) . A « knight » from another era that loves noble causes, Gervay is an accomplished artist, deejay-producer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, singer, music-therapist, writer, philosopher, video-maker and graphic designer, whose spiritual vision and motivation, incarnate the motto «Honor is the cause of the arts ». A musician at heart since childhood, Gervay founded his first band in the psychedelic years. His rather unusual path led him to encounter great musicians that inspired his career, like Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Chris Squire (Yes), Jean Luc Ponty, Steve Hillage, Robert Owens, Nico or Lucia Hwong. Gervay Brio also met several spiritual masters, including HH Karmapa XVI, supreme representative of Lamaism, under whose authority he created in 1980 « Karma Teksoum Chöling », the first Tibetan Buddhist Center in Nantes (Brittany). While teaching yoga and meditation in the Center, he also pursued Law and Psychology studies at the University and music studies at the Conservatory of Music. The Indian master Nageswara Rao initiated Gervay to the Yoga of Sound (Nada Yoga), which led to his career as music-therapist. After settling in Paris, in 1983, Gervay was invited to teach at the International Music Therapy Centre and he soon produced a collection of « Awakening Music » ; this was the precursor of « New Age » music in France, and morphed to « Ambient « and « Lounge » music. In this period Gervay was a pioneer in computer & synthesizers music mix with traditional instruments from around the world (World Music). Continuing as a professional musician, Gervay performed at the Escalier d’ Or theater (Paris) for the Jules Verne Foundation in 1984, at the Jean Villars theater (Suresnes) in 1985 with his multimedia show « Exit To Light », and in 1986 at the foot of the Eiffel Tower for his ballet "Quintessences". He went on tour in the USA in 1990 (New York, Boston, Washington, Atlanta…) with Celtic star Alan Stivell as guitarist-producer of the album "Myst Of Avalon" (Dreyfus 1991) and composed the original music for advertising perfume « Regine’s for men » that he presented in the legendary Palace in Paris. He created his label "Novieval, The Age Of Sound" in 1994 and opened his studio in Montmartre, close to the Sacré-Coeur. In 1996 "King Of Trance" became Gervay's first major "hit": extracted from his "Myxtery" album, it was featured on the famous compilation "Bains Douches" vol.1 (Claude Challe - Mercury-Universal). His new remix of King of Trance Didge Mix feat Ariel Kalma in 2010 earned him first place in the American DjBarometerChart, ahead of David Guetta .... In 1998 Gervay had his "hollywood initiation" in "Man in the Iron Mask" (United Artists), playing the role of the « Designer of the King », alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Irons. In 2000, Gervay met the deejay collective « Evidance » in Budapest, an encounter that launched his new calling as deejay; he soon was performing in the most prestigious clubs in Paris: Cab, Bus Palladium, Gibus , Garden ... and organized some of the best "hype" parties of the capital: Private House, After All, Paribiza ... In 2008, at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, he was honored as « Maestro Dj » by the jury chaired by Daryl Pandy, for his song "Incandescent" featuring Diva Avari, a major artist of the international house scene. Gervay Brio was invited to play at Rain, Blue, Indra, Tantra (Miami) in Souk (NYC) and hosted his weekly TV show on TSNMiami tv. Since then, Gervay has produced several albums and singles, and mixed at Divo, Pigeonnier (St Tropez), Labyrinth Dubrovnik, Croatia), Carpe Diem & Hula Hula (Hwar), Set (Paris) and most recently at Envy (Malta). In 2013 he released his biopic book « The Shaman & The Deejay » prefaced by famous writer André Bercoff accompanied by a « best of » album with the same title. Un musicien dans l'âme depuis l'enfance, Gervay fonda son premier groupe dans les années psychédéliques. Son parcours plutôt inhabituel l'a amené à rencontrer de grands musiciens qui ont inspiré sa carrière, comme Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Chris Squire (Yes), Jean Luc Ponty, Steve Hillage, Robert Owens, Nico ou Lucia Hwong. Gervay Brio a également rencontré d'authentiques maîtres spirituels, y compris le Karmapa XVI, représentant suprême du lamaïsme, sous l'autorité duquel il créa en 1980 «Karma Teksoum Chöling», le premier centre bouddhiste tibétain à Nantes (Bretagne). Alors qu’il enseignait le yoga et la méditation dans son Centre, il poursuivait des études de Droit et de Psychologie à l'Université et de Musique au Conservatoire. Le maître indien Nageswara Rao initia Gervay au Yoga du Son (Nada Yoga), ce qui l’ a conduit à devenir musicothérapeute. Poursuivant sa carrière de musicien professionnel, Gervay donnera un concert au théâtre de l'Escalier d'Or (Paris) pour la Fondation Jules Verne en 1984, au théâtre Jean Villars (Suresnes) en 1985 avec son spectacle multimédia «Exit To Light», et en 1986 au pied de la Tour Eiffel pour son ballet "Quintessences".
